The Nordic region has a population of 24.7 million, 8.9 million are Swedes and
5.2 million are Finns. The whole population within the EU is 456.4 million. 6
European nations have a population level that exceeds the total population of
all the Nordic countries. Of the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland and Sweden
are part of the EU. The total land mass of the European Union is 3.9 millions
km², Finland and Sweden put together have a land mass of 715.4 thousand km² and
make up 18% of the total landmass which is inhabited by only 3% of the total EU-population.
