Sommebygd
SOMMENBYGD is situated in the southern part of Sweden between Stockholm and Malmö. The total population of SOMMENBYGD is app. 51 000. Most of which live in the small towns and villages. It is an inland region with a landscape that varies from forested highlands to open farmland plains. Still, the most predominant feature is all the water—lakes, rivers and canals. Water for swimming, fishing, canoeing, boating and skating in the winter.

The LAG
The foundation of Leader+ SOMMENBYGD is a tripartnership between the Public Sector ( municipalities of Aneby, Boxholm, Kinda, Linköping, Tranås, Ydre and Ödeshög and the regional authorities of Jönköpings län and Östergötland). Private Sector—rural business and farming representatives. Non-profit Organisations, Voluntary Sector and Young People All sectors are represented in the LAG—Local Action Group— the decision-making body of SOMMENBYGD.

LAG is responsible for the implementation of the strategies and objectives set out in the Local Development Plan. This implementation is mainly achieved through the granting of funds to different local projects.

Projects
Examples of key projects:

 • The restoration of the mill and the smithy at Råås kvarn in Ydre is a project that aims at presenting the different features of an 1900th century agri industrial setting to the public.

 • Establishment of a tourism enterprise network with the aim to develop and market new themed packages for the group travel sector in Sweden and Germany • “Youth Cheques” - limited “fast-funding” for groups of young people in the area to engage other youths in different activities

• School Research and Writer’s Project exploring the historical, geological and cultural aspects of an old granite quarry in Askeryd.
